Learnership Programme Overview

This Community Learnership Opportunity is available at Seriti’s Khutala Colliery located in Emalahleni, Mpumalanga. The programme is focused on developing Learner Operators for Underground Mining Machinery (OMM UG). It provides structured theoretical instruction combined with hands-on practical training in underground coal mining operations. Learners will gain in-depth exposure to the working environment of coal mines and the machinery that drives production.

The goal of this programme is to provide local youth from host communities with the chance to build strong foundational skills in mining operations, preparing them for future employment opportunities in the industry.

What You Will Learn

As a Learner Operator, you will be trained to handle and operate a range of underground coal mining equipment. You’ll receive both classroom instruction and on-site guidance from experienced professionals, helping you gain confidence and technical proficiency in a high-performance production environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate underground coal mining equipment under the close supervision of trained professionals.
• Conduct routine and basic equipment checks and minor maintenance.

Minimum Requirements

• A strong willingness to be trained on the operation of underground mining machinery.
• Physically fit and able to meet the demands of a production-oriented environment.
• Comfortable working in confined spaces and around heavy machinery.
• No fear of heights and ability to pass a medical fitness examination.
• Must be able to speak, read, and write in English.
• Willingness to complete a driving and behavioural assessment as part of the recruitment process.
• Ability to work well as part of a team and demonstrate a commitment to learning and development.
• Must be in possession of or eligible to obtain a Certificate of Fitness.
