Work description
The Department of Transportation and Public Works will hire traffic students for the completion of a Certificate of Continuing Education and Training: Road Traffic Law Enforcement.
This is a twelve (12) month training course beginning Monday, January 17, 2022 at Gene Louw College (GLTC), Brackenfell.
Location – Town / City:
Worcester, Laingsburg, Beaufort West, Brackenfell, Somerset West, George, Mossel Bay, Knysna, Vredenburg and Vredendal
The various traffic hubs are: Worcester, Laingsburg, Beaufort West, Brackenfell, Somerset West, George, Mossel Bay, Knysna, Vredenburg and Vredendal.
You can select only a Preferred Center closest to your residential area in the application questions.
Key performance areas:
Enforce legislation on road traffic, public passenger transport and transportation;
Provide visible traffic control / surveillance and promote / ensure crime prevention activities;
Perform all administrative activities and related duties.
Minimum requirements:
A Senior Certificate or equivalent qualification;
Valid motor vehicle license (manual) code B (learner licenses will not be accepted;
The applicant must be in good physical shape, pregnant persons will not be considered physical tasks during recruitment and subsequent training may pose a threat to the fetus and / or the mother;
Visible tattoos and body piercings (except for women with a piercing in each ear) will disqualify the applicant as this will not complement uniformity in a uniform wear environment;
No criminal record;
Candidates must qualify for appointment as Authorized Officer and for appointment as Peace Officer under the terms of Criminal Procedure Law 51 of 1977;
Well versed in the home language of the majority of residents in a specific area where selected incumbents will be appointed;
Candidates reserved for pre-selection will be subject to fingerprint checks by SAPS and must undergo the following tests: interview, knowledge test, physical fitness, driving test and a medical exam as proof that reserved candidates can take strenuous exercise;
Applicants must reside in the vicinity of their selected traffic hubs, if subsequently appointed. Applicants age 35 and over do not qualify, as this is a national requirement.

Good verbal and written communication skills in at least two of the three official languages of the Province;
Good interpersonal and public relations skills;
Capacity to work under pressure;

Ability to work in a team and independently.
Remuneration: A training stipend of R5,000.00 per month will be paid during the training period.
