About the Internship Programme

The YES Internship Programme at Unilever is structured to prepare young individuals for long-term careers. Interns will be placed across various business units and functions, gaining hands-on experience that reflects the pace and expectations of a world-class organization.

Whether you’re based in a corporate office or at a production facility, your contributions will have a direct impact on day-to-day operations. You’ll work alongside some of the most innovative minds in the industry while gaining insight into how a global business operates across different sectors.


Main Responsibilities

Interns will be assigned to support teams within specific business areas, depending on their qualifications and career interests. These areas include:

  • Customer Development (CD)
    Focuses on building and nurturing relationships with major retailers and distributors to deliver mutual business growth. Interns will learn the fundamentals of customer relationship management, sales strategies, and retail operations.
  • Culinary
    Assists with the preparation and coordination of product samples, customer demonstrations, trade events, and culinary content creation. Interns in this stream will support chefs and marketing teams in developing promotional material and engaging experiences.
  • Marketing
    Offers exposure to brand management, consumer insights, campaign development, and digital marketing. Interns will be part of initiatives that drive brand awareness, loyalty, and market penetration.
  • Supply Chain
    Involves supporting end-to-end operations including procurement, production, logistics, and distribution. Interns will gain insight into how goods are delivered efficiently and sustainably to consumers.
  • Human Resources (HR)
    Interns will be involved in employee engagement, talent acquisition, performance management, and organizational development efforts.
  • Finance
    Provides experience in financial planning, budgeting, analysis, compliance, and internal auditing processes. Interns will contribute to accurate financial reporting and strategic decision-making.
  • Information Technology (IT)
    Focuses on digital transformation, system support, and business process automation. Interns will help implement tech-driven solutions that enhance productivity and innovation.
  • Mechanical Engineering
    Participants will work alongside engineering professionals to assist in manufacturing processes, equipment maintenance, and efficiency improvements.
  • Safety, Health and Environment (SHE)
    Involves supporting site-level SHE initiatives to ensure compliance with occupational health and safety standards. Interns will contribute to the maintenance and improvement of safety systems.
  • Corporate Communications
    Assists with internal and external communication efforts, including employee newsletters, press releases, corporate branding, and public relations initiatives.
  • Learning & Rewards
    Supports training, development, and compensation initiatives that drive employee performance and engagement across the business.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the Unilever YES Internship Programme, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Must be a South African citizen between the ages of 18 and 34
  • Currently unemployed and not enrolled in full-time studies
  • Must have completed a Matric certificate (Grade 12)
  • Holding a tertiary qualification is advantageous but not mandatory
  • Should have no more than two years of previous work experience
  • Must not have previously participated in a YES Programme
  • Must be willing to commit to the full 12-month internship period
  • Must demonstrate a strong willingness to learn and grow in a professional environment
