About the Learnership Programme
Umngeni-uThukela Water, a leading water utility provider committed to sustainable water resource management, is offering an exciting one-year Learnership Programme for the 2025–2026 intake. The programme is designed to empower motivated and deserving youth from remote and underserved communities by equipping them with essential skills and hands-on experience required in the field of water and wastewater treatment.
This fully accredited programme will culminate in the achievement of a National Certificate in Water and Waste Water Treatment Practice (NQF Level 2). The Learnership is structured to provide a balanced combination of classroom-based theoretical learning, practical on-site training, and the compilation of a Portfolio of Evidence (POE) as part of the final assessment process.
Participants will gain exposure at operational water treatment facilities located in the North East Region of KwaZulu-Natal, including plants in Richards Bay and Jozini, where they will work alongside professionals in the sector and learn how to manage and maintain essential water services.
Who Should Apply?
This opportunity is specifically targeted at youth who meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Must be a South African citizen, aged 35 years or younger.
- Must have completed Grade 12 (Matric), including subjects in Mathematics and Physical Science.
- Must be currently unemployed and not engaged in any form of tertiary education or training.
- Applicants must reside in deep rural areas of uMkhanyakude District or uMzinto District Municipality.
- Individuals living with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply, as the programme values inclusivity and diversity.
- Applicants must not hold any post-school qualification at NQF Level 5 or above.

- A motivational letter that outlines your background, career goals, and why you believe you are a suitable candidate for the Learnership.
- An affidavit confirming that you are currently unemployed.
