Overview of the Learnership Programme

This structured 12-month programme is designed to provide unemployed youth with the opportunity to gain both theoretical and practical experience in the retail and merchandising sectors. Participants will receive in-depth training and hands-on experience as Junior Merchandisers within the wine and spirits industry.

The learnership combines classroom learning with real-world job experience, equipping participants with the skills, knowledge, and workplace readiness required to pursue a career in merchandising or related fields. Participants will work alongside experienced professionals, gaining exposure to various facets of the retail and distribution environment.

What You Will Learn and Do

As part of this programme, successful applicants will assume the role of Junior Merchandisers and will be responsible for a range of duties and responsibilities that are essential in a retail merchandising role, including but not limited to:

  • Identifying and determining stock to be merchandised in-store
  • Drawing and managing stock requirements
  • Monitoring product vintage, shelf-life, quality, and pricing
  • Executing merchandising activities as directed by the cycle brief
  • Providing feedback on customer complaints, queries, and product requests
  • Communicating current promotions and product knowledge to relevant stakeholders
  • Recording merchandising activities accurately and consistently
  • Completing store visits and calls according to a defined call cycle
  • Reporting out-of-stock items to the Regional Sales Manager (RSM)
  • Supporting the sales team to ensure effective product visibility and presentation in retail outlets

  • Location: Cape Town, Western Cape
  • Monthly Stipend: R4,000

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this learnership, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be between the ages of 18 and 28 years old
  • Hold a National Senior Certificate (Grade 12 / Matric)
  • Have passed Mathematics and English in Matric
  • Be currently unemployed
  • Reside in Cape Town or surrounding areas
  • Be passionate about learning and open to working in a fast-paced retail environment
  • Be committed to attending and completing all aspects of the 12-month programme
