About the Internship

This internship is hosted at the IEC Gauteng Provincial Office, where the selected candidate will work closely with experienced logistics and supply chain professionals. Over a two-year period, the intern will be immersed in a structured learning environment tailored to introduce graduates to the fields of:

  • Logistics and distribution
  • Supply chain and procurement practices
  • Electoral and operational planning

Through day-to-day involvement in electoral logistics and administrative activities, the intern will develop a comprehensive understanding of how elections are supported at the provincial and national levels.


Core Responsibilities

Interns will have the opportunity to perform and learn from a variety of tasks and projects. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the coordination and execution of inbound and outbound logistics, including the receiving and dispatching of election materials
  • Assisting in the procurement process and monitoring supplier performance and delivery schedules
  • Participating in inventory management and warehouse operations, ensuring compliance with organizational standards
  • Contributing to logistical planning and implementation for by-elections and other electoral events
  • Assisting with documentation and administrative support, such as minute-taking, record-keeping, and reporting
  • Preparing presentations and performance reports for internal use
  • Managing filing systems and contributing to the efficiency of operational workflows
  • Gaining exposure to financial and administrative tasks associated with logistics in a constitutional institution

This internship provides a unique opportunity to observe and contribute to the preparations and execution of electoral events, providing insight into the complex and critical logistics behind democratic processes.


Minimum Eligibility Requirements

To be considered for this internship, applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:

  • Must be 35 years of age or younger
  • Must not have previously participated in any internship, learnership, or formal work experience related to their field of study
  • Must hold a Matric Certificate (Grade 12 / N3 / NQF Level 4)
  • Must have successfully completed a Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma in one of the following fields:
    • Logistics
    • Supply Chain Management
    • Procurement

Key Competencies and Attributes

The ideal candidate should possess the following skills and qualities:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • A demonstrated willingness to learn, adapt, and take initiative
