The Department of Tourism is currently inviting qualified, motivated, and service-oriented individuals to apply for the position of Driver / Messenger within the Transport Services division. Minimum Requirements:

To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:

  • A minimum of Grade 10 qualification or ABET Level 4.
  • A valid and unexpired South African driver’s license.
  • A minimum of 1 to 2 years relevant working experience, preferably in a government or administrative environment.
  • Familiarity and working knowledge of the following legislation and guidelines:
    • Transport Circular 4 of 2000
    • National Road Traffic Act of 1996
    • Public Service Act and Regulations
    • Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) of 1999

Required Competencies and Skills:

  • Proven driving experience, with excellent driving skills and a clean driving record.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • The ability to read and interpret maps, as well as confidently use GPS navigation tools.
  • Effective time management and organizational abilities.
  • Sound interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with colleagues and the public in a respectful and professional manner.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Ability to remain calm and efficient under pressure, particularly in dealing with challenging clients or urgent tasks.
  • A high sense of loyalty, responsibility, and discretion in the handling of official matters.
  • Capacity to identify and manage conflict situations appropriately and diplomatically.

Key Responsibilities:

The successful applicant will be expected to perform a variety of tasks that ensure the efficient functioning of the Department’s transport and delivery services. Duties will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Operating light and medium motor vehicles for official departmental duties.
  • Delivering and collecting documentation and parcels between the Department and various government offices, stakeholders, or designated locations.
  • Providing shuttle services to departmental employees for official engagements and assignments.
  • Transporting vehicles to and from maintenance and repair service providers.
  • Conducting thorough vehicle inspections both prior to and after trips to ensure roadworthiness and safety compliance.
  • Ensuring that vehicles are kept clean and well-maintained at all times.
  • Assisting with the administration of transport operations, including:
    • Verifying vehicle registers
    • Processing and checking transport requisition forms
    • Reviewing and recording entries in vehicle logbooks
  • Photocopying and emailing transport-related documents as required.
  • Filing transport records and assisting with administrative tasks such as signing delivery receipts or transport documentation.
