Homestead Street Children Projects successfully transition abandoned and traumatized children away from the street, back home, or into successful independent living through a holistic package of prevention, outreach, stabilization, residential care, reunification. family and youth transition programs. The Homestead works with chronically neglected, abused and abandoned children, as well as children who live, work and beg on the street.

The Homestead is seeking to appoint a qualified, SACSSP registered social worker to work at our drop-in center in Woodstock, Cape Town.

Compensation: R16 500 per month (gross), plus provident fund.

Responsibilities:

Provide daily psychosocial support to the abandoned, abused, school dropouts and vulnerable children of Woodstock.
Provide social work, after school care, school attendance, crisis, and family intervention support services to children attending the Homestead Drop-in center.
Conduct assessments, develop and manage internally displaced persons and provide therapeutic services to abandoned, abused and neglected street children.
Refer children to legal services when necessary.
Help coordinate and run the Shelter Center’s daily program, including vacation programs, parent training, etc.
Requirements:

Afrikaans as a mother tongue and ability and willingness to work in the Woodstock community, make home and school visits, etc.
Driver’s license (will not be considered a learner’s license)
Bachelor of Social Work and valid / current SACSSP registration
Fluency (written and spoken) in English, as well as Afrikaans as a mother tongue.
Microsoft computer literacy (Word, Excel, email, social media and the web)
Willingness to complete a pre-employment polygraph examination, as well as to undergo detailed reviews and character checks.
That his name is not on the Child Protection Registry and there is no reason why he cannot work with children.
Two recent and contactable references, one of which must be work related.
High-energy individual, with a drive for detail, dependable and capable of working independently in the field and as part of a highly motivated team.
