Lindsey Milne Scholarship Program 2022

The Lindsey Milne Scholarship Program aims to assist students who wish to pursue a career in the subtropical fruit industry in South Africa. For this, financial aid will be provided to students studying Agriculture. The applications are already open.

To assist students who wish to pursue a career in the subtropical fruit industry in South Africa, the South African Subtropical Growers Association (Subtrop), comprising the South African Avocado Growers Association (SAAGA), the Mango Growers Association South African Association (SAMGA) and the South African Litchi Growers Association (SALGA) offer the Lindsey Milne Scholarship Program.

Requirements
The Lindsey Milne Scholarship is for students studying for a Bachelor’s (Agric) major in Horticultural Science and related fields or Agricultural Economics.

For any student, the scholarship will be available for an initial period of one year, after which progress will determine the extent of the scholarship. If a student receives the scholarship for the first time, she will not automatically qualify for the next year’s scholarship.

Students who receive a Subtrop scholarship will be required to work for Subtrop for a period of one year for each year the scholarship is awarded, as long as a position is available. If there is no position available at the time the recipient completes their degree, there will be no obligation to Subtrop. If a position is not available in Subtrop, the beneficiary will be helped to find a position with the members of the various producer associations.

Scholarship recipients should focus their seminars and projects on subtropical crops (avocado, mango, lychee) whenever possible.

Recipients who wish to pursue a graduate degree will be able to do so provided the research being conducted further equips the student to effectively serve subtropical industries as a Subtrop employee. The scholarship scheme does not foresee the participation of graduate students, since the member associations of Subtrop finance the research carried out by graduate students, which in effect is equivalent to a scholarship.
