Call for Temporary Firefighters in Cape Town

Firefighters can now apply for all 120 seasonal positions within the Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service.

Seasonal firefighters are expected to work at least 40 hours a week for the duration of their contracts.

Their key duties include firefighting duties under the guidance and supervision of firefighters and officers, emergency incident preparedness, and creating firebreaks along the urban edge.

“The Fire and Rescue Service responded to 8,202 wildfires between November 2021 and April 2022. Our seasonal recruits are critical to our efforts to protect lives and property during this busy period.

Fitness Requirements

The fitness test includes:
a test range of 1.9m
a 2.4 km run within a prescribed time (12 minutes for men and 13 minutes for women)
30 sit-ups in 60 seconds
30 push-ups in 60 seconds
a dead load of 50 kg carries 100 m

Shortlisted candidates will be required to take a mandatory physical fitness test and, when they pass the physical test, they will also be required to pass a written assessment and an interview.
